Awareness program against human trafficking was conducted at Shree Karkala Devi Higher Secondary School, Okhaldhunga. Volunteers Initiative Nepal’s (VIN) international volunteer conducted the class for the students of the school. However, the class was attended by School’s Principal, guardians and all the teachers of the school. Social worker Kedar Babu Basnet and Area Police Incharge DP Nepali were present in the program as guests. Other local people were also present in the program. Around 55 students benefited from the awareness program.
The two hours long awareness program against human trafficking started from 11 AM and was conducted till 1 PM. It was an interactive session where the students also participated. Police in-charge DP Nepali also shared his experience while he served as the border police with the attendants of the awareness program against human trafficking.
VIN conducts awareness program against human trafficking in its community in Kathmandu and the program conducted in Okhaldhunga is not different from it. However, the program conducted in Okhaldhunga is even more impactful since the locals from Okhaldhunga are more vulnerable to the issue of human trafficking. This program was conducted especially targeting the students as generally in context of Nepal, the young people are the victim of trafficking.
