English Language and Computer Classes to Women
VIN has supported various types of women empowerment programs for community development. It has provided many different types of programs including vegetable farming, sewing, cutting, embroidery, candle making, women’s education and life skills training, and capacity build–up training for women.
In Feburary 2015, VIN had mobilized three international volunteers in the conduction English language and computer classes under the women’s empowerment program.
The main objective of the classes is to teachEnglish in order to be independent. The classes are running according to the needs and expectations of the participants. VIN conducted the meetings for class running and provided other necessary materials. VIN made an agreement with the women that they will provide teaching materials and stationary if the women manage the teaching hall. This is to encourage community contribution. VIN has been mobilizing international volunteers Megan from Canada, Susana from Finland and Hollie from England. They are conducting classes by using participatory methods and practical exercises. They are teaching English language for 16 women ofAthmile ,Thumki, and Devisthan community.
Megan who is the international volunteer has conducted the computer training program in the Thumki with the English class. Recently computer class has been run because women are interested in learning computer training and communication skills such as face-book, google, etc. It has been challenging due to the lack of internet access so separate internet data-cable were kept for this program. It is conducted every day of the week.
Women empowerment volunteers have supported to this program which is very important for community women. This program has great potential to improve their personal lives and build their capablity. The women are happy to take English classes. They gave thanks to VIN and volunteers for its wonderful contribution on women empowerment program.
Many international volunteers provided support in conduction of life skills class, language and computer class and also woman field work. They helped the women and the local people also gave their support and showed appreciation as well. English class is going in full swing and looking forward to see many more progress in upcoming season.
