Life Changing Experience With VIN
“The experience was spiritually rehabilitating, physically demanding and visually enchanting,” expressed Alex from Champlain College who stayed in Nepal for two week long volunteering at Jeetpurphedi. He was one of the volunteers of 12 member Group volunteer who arrived Nepal on 21st May. While he stayed with his host family working for the betterment of the people from marginalized communities, it was great opportunity for him to experience the hardships people were living with. He is happy that he decided to volunteer with VIN that gave him the opportunity to explore this face of humanity. “People live a difficult life in Jeetpurphedi but in spite of this difficulty they are so loving and caring that they accepted me as one of their family members and I did not even feel like a foreigner here at this place,” he shared.
Other volunteers from the group experienced more or less the same thing. The shower of love from the host family, the way they were accepted as one of their family members, the care and attention they got every now and then and other many things have made them realized that humanity still exists in this world full of chaos.
The volunteers got the chance of interacting with the students and work closely with the farmers. While they were in the school, they involved themselves in the activities like sports, language, paining, decorating classrooms and sharing the culture. The students and volunteers came from different cultural background and the students exhibited Nepali culture through dance and even volunteers did the same. It was a life changing experience for almost all of them.
Besides volunteering, VIN also took the volunteers for sight-seeing to Bhaktapur and a local cultural dinner at the end of their volunteering program. This brought them even closer with the Nepali culture and they enjoyed both the dinner and sight-seeing.
