Total Sanitation Program at Shree Khadwalkot Primary School, Jitpurphedi
On 21st November, 4 workcamp volunteers who had joined VIN under “Total Sanitation Program” conducted their first sanitation class for the children of Shree Khadwalkot Primary school at Jitpurphedi. The program was conducted for around 1.5 hours where the volunteers gave theoretical as well as practical lessons about brushing teeth and hand washing. There were around 30 students from different classes. The program started around 1:30 pm. The volunteers at first volunteers gave theoretical lessons about how to wash their hands by showing them the proper steps of hand washing. The children along with the 4 workcamp volunteers washed their hands following the six steps. After the hand washing program, everyone cleaned the school premises.
The next session in the total sanitation program was about brushing teeth. The volunteers gave them both the practical and theoretical knowledge about the six steps of brushing their teeth. All the children of the school were also given a brush for their daily use from VIN which was donated by a VIN’s previous volunteer Eric Vreman’s daughter Rhea Kovacs. Local facilitator representing Deepak and one local volunteer Dev also assisted the work camp volunteers to orient the children. All the teachers of the school attended this program and the children also enjoyed interacting with the international volunteers.
The program concluded with the Happy Birthday song sung by the children as one of the work camp volunteers Davide Gandolfi, had a birthday on the same day.
