I had a fantastic time working with VIN – Regrettably only 2 weeks. I still learnt a whole raft of things that have made me and more culturally aware. Staying with the host family was brilliant – they were so hospitable and kind, the potato chips were unbelievably delicious, the children and puppies provided great entertainment and I learnt all sorts of Nepalese words, songs and dances. As for the work itself, making change is forever challenging but immensely gratifying. I experienced a great variety in families – made me realize that the range in people is the same in every country. I helped with some families who were incredibly motivated and strong. Some desperate and some lazy – but no matter who they were they were always thankful of the hard work VIN does. Toilets Construction is an exceptionally rewarding job, and I wish the very best future volunteers and all the remaining families in need of better sanitation. Side note: tips for future Volunteers – the more enthusiasm you show, the more you receive. If times were tough, keep smiling, and you’ll be forever appreciated.
